Tell us a bit about The Luna Hive as well as what the inspiration was behind it?
The Luna Hive is a website that gives access to trusted experts who are specialists in women’s health. We have blogs and online courses, as well as a directory of local experts who see clients over the phone/skype or in person. Our experts can help with anything related to women’s health including fertility, pregnancy, being a new mum and menopause. We have 28 different services, so whether it is mental, emotional, physical or practical support – we have someone who can help!
The inspiration behind The Luna Hive was that so often women don’t put themselves first and if they need support in some way, if it’s not easily accessible and they don’t feel confident in who to go to, they won’t do it! We also felt that a lot of services focused on pregnancy and very new mums, rather than looking at women’s health more broadly which we wanted to change.
So we made it our mission to make trusted experts available across the whole of Surrey, whichever stage you are at in life!
What is your favourite thing about what you do?
That is a tough one! I love helping women find support they need to feel empowered, reduce pain or just look after themselves. When you hear that our service has made a difference to someone life when they really needed it, it feels incredible. But the biggest surprise for me is how much I love working with our experts on their businesses too! I used to do a lot of coaching and mentoring in my corporate life and I hadn’t realised just how much I had missed it until I started working with our brilliant experts!
How do you juggle work and family life?
Wanting to work flexibly around Eliza (my 2 year old) was one of the main reasons I didn’t go back to my corporate job. Jo and I both work from home and juggle our kids/family life around the business. I have part time childcare (combination of grandparents and nursery) so I try and get as much done as I can when she is there and then do the rest in the evenings! It can get very chaotic and every week is different but I have at least 1 or 2 days a week with Eliza where I try to focus on her (and do as much as I can in nap time!).
What is your favourite thing to do in Surrey with your little Munchkins?
There are so many great things to do! Jo and I often meet at RHS Wisley with our girls… they all burn some energy off and we get to have tea and cake! Eliza loves animals so we also love going to all the brilliant local farms! Bocketts and Chobham Adventure Farm are our favourites at the moment!
What’s next for The Luna Hive?
We have so much in the pipeline, the next few months are going to be really exciting! We we are working on website changes to make it even easier to find the expert you are looking for through the website which should be live in September.
We have recently re-launched our ‘Mother Hive’ Facebook group (www.facebook.com/groups/themotherhive) and each week we have a guest expert sharing information, giving support and offering opportunities to do a live Q&A. Recently we’ve had experts in mental health, postnatal exercise and recovery after a c-section.
Plus, if you run your own women’s health and wellness business, we now have a group for you too! Luna Collective (www.facebook.com/groups/lunacollective) is a brilliant group of local experts where we share tips and training on building your visibility online to get more consistent clients!
